End Poverty

Ending Poverty in Golden, BC

Golden Community Coop is focused on local solutions to reducing and eliminating poverty in our community. Poverty is a complex problem that does not have an easy solution.

We know that poverty reduction requires dedicated support from governments to adjust policies and re-think the systems that are meant serve vulnerable people in our region, province and across our country. While advocating for changes at the government level, the Coop is very active at the community level to deliver support to our residents, right here in Golden and CSRD Area A.

The poverty rate in British Columbia is among the worst in Canada

After public consultation earlier this year, the Province has released a consultation report “What We Heard About Poverty in B.C.”. This document will serve as a framework for new poverty reduction legislation in the Fall of 2018 and a much needed Poverty Reduction Strategy for British Columbia.

Read the “What We Heard About Poverty in BC” report HERE.

The Coop has contributed to this consultation and will continue to follow the development of the strategy and will participate wherever possible.
